Going plant-based for the environment
Our Environment Is On The Brink Of Total Break-down
Mother earth has totally got the shits, like any mother, there is only so much she can put up with. Global warming is real guys and becoming an ever frightening sight. I find watching environmental news nowadays is like watching a scary movie. It’s a clear sign change is happening when you witness the crazy weather patterns across the world on the news causing widespread global mayhem, not to mention the 100’s of plant and animal species becoming extinct EVERY SINGLE DAY! Never to roam this beautiful earth again… because of us humans. It’s just so incredibly heartbreaking.
Climate Change Is Real
It is said the greatest threat to our planet today is the belief that someone else will save it! Climate change is real, I get it guys I really do, it’s just too easy to go about your day-to-day lives and choose to ignore it because sure what can I do about it? Sadly guys we all need to pull our heads out of the sand and understand the duty we all have as individuals in protecting and conserving the environment not only for us now but for our future generations our children and grandchildren. What kind of world will they be living in when we are long gone? It actually scares me to think about it.
This may come as a surprise to you because it surprised me when I first made the decision to go Vegan. It is said that the single biggest thing that an individual can do to combat climate change is to stop eating animals. Animal agriculture is ruining our planet. It is the largest contributor to climate change but is often overlooked.
Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Believe it or not this is more than all of the cars, boats, trains and planes combined.
That’s huge!!!! It is also stripping our earth of fossil fuels as it takes 10 times the amount of fossil fuel to produce one calorie of animal protein than it does to produce one calorie of plant protein. Animal agriculture covers 30% of our planet’s landmass with 7 football fields worth of land being bulldozed every minute to accommodate the demand for animal meat and the crops we feed them. The amount of food we feed to these animals just to eat them is incredible. It takes 16 pounds of grain to produce one pound of meat. This is an extremely inefficient and wasteful system. In fact, the world’s cattle alone consume the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people. More people than there is living on this earth and yet there are still thousands of people starving to death every day.
Let’s not forget about our oceans. Scientists predict we could have fishless oceans by 2050. That sounds like something out of a horror movie but is indeed the harrowing truth. Farmed fish must be fed 5 pounds of wild-caught fish in order to produce one pound of flesh. People try to avoid plastic straws to save the sea life and yet almost absentmindedly continue to consume fish and other seafood. The world is crumbling at every turn and people know they need to make a change. The single greatest thing you can do is to switch to a vegan diet. Such a small change for such a monumental impact.
Every one of us makes an environmental impact on this earth, and how we live our lives affects how significant this impact is.
It’s time we all do our bit peeps.
