Coconut oil… an absolute must have in anyone’s home.
Coconut oil is well known for its versatility but it’s actually hard to believe something you cook your stir fry’s in for dinner can also be used on your face to remove the most stubborn, waterproof mascaras? Yep crazy I know but it works magic… try it.
I have used coconut oil in my cooking for years for its high smoke potency properties making it fantastic for dishes such as stir fry’s cooked at high heats, but I was blown away when I first started using coconut oil on my body.
So what makes coconut oil a great beauty product? Well it’s made up of approximately 48% lauric acid (and one of the only other places you will find this is in breast milk). Lauric acid is full of health-boosting and skin-loving properties because it is antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. Coconut oil is also high in vitamin E, which is highly beneficial to the skin as well.
The skin is the biggest organ in our body in both surface area and weight, which kinda gets overlooked. Our skin is our first line of defence for our body with many functions such as secretion and elimination of toxins, heat regulation, absorption, sensations, vitamin D regulation and melanin formation. So as you can imagine it needs a lot of love and attention, so it makes sense to care for it with natural, skin friendly products.
Coconut oil has so many beauty benefits along with medicinal and ailment reliefs. Since using coconut oil myself over 5 years ago my skin has never felt more nourished. I use it from head to toe, hair, face, teeth (through oil pulling, just amazing), and body for moisturizing, exfoliating and shaving. I find it amazing to use on sunburn and any skin irritation or rash. It just seems to clear everything up like magic… Natures magic, pure coconut oil.
I think we all get a little confused as to what skin care range we should be using these days. It doesn’t help with today’s market of Skin Health care being a mind field, where does one begin. But as I reluctantly grow older and wiser I’m beginning to realise these expensive skin care products with their fancy ad campaigns are no more about what’s in the product your lathering all over your face, rather more about the celebrity being paid to advertise it. It really is very clever, when ya think about it. We all fall for the trap of wanting to look as fabulous as that celebrity in her Gucci frock with the body to die for walking through a river of gold with her perfect hair and her perfect teeth, so obviously we want and desperately need what she is selling. That’s marketing in a nutshell.
Take all that marketing BS away and what are we left with… getting back to basics. Nature, she gives us everything we need.
Coconut oil is one of the few foods that can be classified as a “superfood.” Its unique combination of fatty acids can have many positive effects on our health. This includes fat loss, (yep imagine that) along with better brain function and various other impressive benefits. Coconut oil is high in healthy saturated fats that have different effects than most other fats in your diet.
What’s so good about these fats is that they can boost fat burning and provide your body and brain with quick energy. They also raise the good HDL cholesterol in your blood, which is linked to reduced heart disease risk. Most fats in the diet are called long-chain triglycerides, but the fats in coconut oil are known as medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). What this means is that the fatty acids are shorter than most other fats. When you eat these types of fats, they go straight to the liver, where they are used as a quick source of energy or turned into ketones.
So the long and the short of it is, if your lathering your body in it or your roast potatoes in it, in my opinion everyone should have a jar of Cold pressed coconut oil in their kitchen and in their bathroom cupboard.
Get your hands on a Jar today little spooners!
Let me know how you guys like to use your coconut oil xx
